Roland Coate: Selznick house (Beverly Hills, Calif.)

Irene Mayer and David C. Selznick, a well-known movie producer, commissioned this house from Coate at the height of the great depression. The house was a Georgian Revival on a large lot in the center of Beverly Hills, surrounded by other movie moguls. Irene Mayer took a hands-on approach to working with Coate on her house-- she even assisted in designing the kitchens, bathrooms, and service wing. Subsequent owners of the property included Edward Doheny, Sammy Davis Jr., and Ed McMahon.
The original landscape design was by Florence Yoch and Lucile Council.
